There is no Business Data Connectivity Service associated with the current web context

In SharePoint 2016, I have configured the Business Data Connectivity Service Application. but when I tried to create new External Content Types using SharePoint designer. I got the following error:

There is no Business Data Connectivity Service associated with the current web context

There is no Business Data Connectivity Service associated with the current web context

There is no Business Data Connectivity Service associated with the current web context

This problem might occur because of

  • The BCS has not been configured.
  • The BCS has been configured but stopped.
  • BCS application service has been configured and started properly but it is not connected to the SharePoint Web Application.

Solution

To avoid this issue, you should make sure that the Business Data Connectivity Service is configured and started properly.

Start Business Data Connectivity Service

In case you have configured the Business Data Connectivity Service and you still facing this issue “There is no Business Data Connectivity Service associated with the current web context” that means the Business Data Connectivity Service is stopped and you need to start it by doing the following:

Steps
  • Go to Central Administration > System Settings > Manage Services on Server.
Manage Services On Server
  • Check the BCS status, and if it stopped, try to start it.
Start Business Data Connectivity Service

Configure Service Application Association

If the BCS application service has been configured and started properly that means it is not connected and associated to the current SharePoint Web Application.

Steps
  • Go to Central Administration > Application Management >Manage web Applications.
Manage web Applications
  • Select the web application > from ribbon click on Service Connections > Ensure that BSC  has been checked.if not, check it.
Configure Service Application Association in SharePoint
  • Go back to SharePoint designer that should now been worked properly.
Create External Content Type
